Overview

James M. Chan’s current practice includes the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in the automotive arts. James was formerly a contract patent attorney for Chemours Company LLC, responsible for U.S. and international patent prosecution of Flourochem Technologies, and an in-house patent attorney for Delphi Automotive Systems LLC, responsible for patent prosecution and IP related transaction agreements, specializing in Non-disclosure, Technical Services, and Joint Development Agreements.

James started his career with General Motors in 1989 at the GM Hydra-matic Transmissions Plant in Willow Run, Michigan. His former assignments include Research Assistant at GM Research Labs, Plant Engineer at GM Powertrain, Corporate Staff Engineer at both GM and Delphi Headquarters, Manager for Product Government Affairs and Partnerships at Delphi, and Patent Attorney at Delphi.

James holds a Master of Law Degree in Intellectual Property, a Juris Doctor’s Degree, a Master of Business Administration, a Master’s Degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering. He is also a licensed Professional Engineer in Michigan and a registered Patent Attorney with the USPTO.
